On the other hand, Martin Luther King, Jr. came to reinforce the freedom that had already been declared through the Declaration of Independence in love and peace to his death. There are bondages of man, religion and spirit, but today the discussion is religion. It's wonderful to not be bound by religious ties! In order to find your true inner peace, happiness, and fulfillment, you must first except the freedom that has been given to you by God!

Dr. Alveda C. King chats with talk radio’s the “REALLY, Real, Deal with Brother Craig The Hatchet Man”, about how she’s keeping the legacy of her uncle, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream alive. Dr. Alveda King is the daughter of the late civil rights activist Rev. A.D. King and his wife Naomi Barber King. Growing up during the civil rights movement, led by her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., her family’s home in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed, as was her father’s church office in Louisville, Kentucky, and Alveda was jailed during the open housing movement. A Christian minister, political conservative, pro-life activist, and author, Dr. King is a full-time Pastoral Associate of African-American Outreach for the Roman Catholic pro-life group, Priests for Life and a Senior Fellow at the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution, a conservative Washington, D.C. think-tank. Recently a speaker at Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally, held at the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington, D.C., King explained to the Christian Science Monitor that speaking at the rally was a chance to engage in freedom of speech and to praise the man, Lincoln, that "led this fledgling nation out of slavery, and made my people free." Thoughts by Vincent Harding Having shared a precious friendship with Martin King during the last ten years of his life, I was very pleased to learn that Beacon Press was returning to its important role as a publisher of his book-length works. Then, when I was asked to write the introduction for this new edition of King’s fourth book, many powerful memories flooded my being. First and most important was my recollection of how determined Martin was to be fully and creatively engaged with the living history of his time, a history he did so much to help create but also a dangerous and tumultuous history that shaped and transformed his own amazingly brief yet momentous searching life. From this position of radical engagement it would have been relatively easy for King, if he chose, to confine his published writing to telling the powerful stories of the experiences he shared almost daily with the magnificent band of women, men, and children who worked in the black-led Southern freedom movement, recounting how they struggled to transform themselves, their communities, this nation, and our world. Instead, going beyond the stories, King insisted on constantly raising and reflecting on the basic questions he posed in the first chapter of this work—“Where Are We?” and in the overall title of the book itself, Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? (Always present, of course, were the deepest questions of all: Who are we? Who are we meant to be?)

Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was born Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin. His grandfather began the family's long tenure as pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, serving from 1914 to 1931; his father has served from then until the present, and from 1960 until his death Martin Luther acted as co-pastor. Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen; he received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a distinguished Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. After three years of theological study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania where he was elected president of a predominantly white senior class, he was awarded the B.D. in 1951.On December 21, 1956, after the Supreme Court of the United States had declared unconstitutional the laws requiring segregation on buses, Negroes and whites rode the buses as equals. During these days of boycott, King was arrested, his home was bombed, he was subjected to personal abuse, but at the same time he emerged as a Negro leader of the first rank. On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the necessary man in the civil rights movement, keeping the heart of it non-violent and focused on the prize. But it was the movement that was sacred, not the man.

Being more specific and being African American that would mean that although we appreciate in most cases being able to purchase goods and services outside of our African American Community we can all grow in leaps and bounds when other African Americans as well as those outside of being African American do the same towards us. Come to our stores and gain the African American Experience. In some cases like in network marketing there will not be any major differences because of the systems that the various companies have in place. But there are flower shops , tutorial services, consulting firms, writers, dentist , doctors, insurance agents, financial service representatives and a host of other businesses that seem themselves ignored and left out of the fair exchange and equality that the Great Dr. Martin Luther King worked so hard to express and to achieve. So as I close out January and enter February 2011 - I say Take the Dr. Martin Luther King Challenge and use 2011 to make the Dream come true in your life!
